Message from the President Dear Fellow Residents,
As you will be aware over the last 3 years the Civic Trust has re-shaped its e-news to:
Fill the gap of not having a dedicated local newspaper;
Provide a free of charge medium for local groups to advertise their activities;
Assisted the Civic Trust better represent residents by conducting surveys to help us better understand community points of view.
To continue improving how we operate, we will seek to better understand
who we are in contact with by identifying the age groups of most readers
of the eNews and the languages primarily spoken in the home. The
results in this area of the most recent census will show how
representative our readership is of the villages themselves. We can also
seek to gather more interest amongst significant groups that we are
currently missing. Please help us by supplying information when
requested.
While January is generaly a quiet month, we most unusually, had a bout
of robberies over the month. Most of the robberies (including my own
home) suffered the involvement of professional thieves across our
villages. According to the police the thieves appeared to be
opportunistic and robberies took place where a window had been left
unlocked or other similar lapse in attention by residents. This is a
good reminder to take care.
In the Australia Day Honours long standing local resident Kate
Palethorpe was honoured for her contribution to music especially her
many decades of involvement in the North Sydney Youth Orchestra and the
City of Ryde Eisteddfod. This is so well deserved and highlights how
broad the range of volunteering that is available to us and the immense
spread of interests amongst us.
A sad passing was that of Melba Seale (wife of Peter) (1935-2025) who
was one of the extended Seale families that started locally in Malton
Road. The early local history of this family can be found on the
Beecroft Cheltenham History Group web site.
The Trust Committee is planning to celebrate our 60th
anniversary. We will also be hosting a "Meet the Candidates" event
for the Federal election and the Trust's AGM. Please be aware for
further information on each of these events. Times and dates will
be published as soon as booking for these dates have been confirmed.
Unlike Fearnley Park, for which there was extensive public consultation,
a submission lodged by the Civic Trust and, where work should shortly
commence, there is the latest addition to the Railway Reserve gardens. I
appreciate that it is very much a matter of personal taste and personal
priorities in terms of expenditure, it was a project over which the
Civic Trust had no prior information and no input. However from my
perspective, I like it as a piece of public art.
The New Installation in the Railway Reserve Gardens.
Hornsby Bushcare
A huge thank you to our Bushcare volunteers. These are some of the
members of one such group, the Chilworth Reserve volunteers.
There are many more sites. Cassia Grove, Hull Road, Fearnley

Clean Up Australia 2025 The
Civic Trust has once again registered the Beecroft Village Green as a
community site for the 2025 Clean Up Australia campaign. Put in
your diary Sunday 2nd March, from 9am to 12 Noon.
Volunteers can simply turn up and register on the morning. Any issues
such as bad weather, contact Ross Walker who will be supervising,
on 0412 257 556.
A huge thank you to all those who volunteered for Clean Up Australia in 2024.
Over 30 bags of rubbish were collected. We had support from many residents plus the local Scouts and Rotary.

Brush Turkeys While
some consider Brush Turkeys to be a garden wrecking nuisance, there are
some rewards to be had, like catching a glimpse of a newly hatched
chick. Amazingly these chicks emerge from the mound fully fledged
and able to fly short distances. These pictures were captured in
January 2025 at Chapman Avenue as the chick emerged from the mound. CLICK on the picture above to view a video of the newly hatched chick.
